Baltimore...with photos!

We finally made it to Baltimore on Wednesday night at 9:00pm...11 1/2 hours after we left home! Thursday morning we met Great Grandma Ginny, Aunt Peggy and Aunt Mary at the National Aquarium to look at the fish and see the dolphin show. Drew loved the fish and had a great time with his "great" relatives! Allen was a champ, riding in the Baby Bjorn for the first time in months and just watching all the fish and people! After lunch at a fun sandwich shop, Drew and I bought some cupcakes from a neat vendor on the harbor. We all came back to the hotel for the boys to nap and for the adults to have some time to just relax and talk. Dinner was at the Irish pub across from our hotel...this crazy Irish family was right at home! A manager/owner who came by our table was from Ireland and when Aunt Mary spelled our last name and asked him how to pronounce it, he said it just right!

Friday, Patrick had a meeting so I decided to venture away from the harbor with the boys. We had some issues getting started (the tires on my double stroller were flat! and I forgot my camera...) but we made it and enjoyed a beautiful (and hot!) day at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Since the double was out of commission, Drew got to walk the whole day which thrilled him! Allen was a trouper, as usual, and didn't fuss at all. He even laughed at some of the animals! Drew got to see the elephants and monkeys...his favorites! We headed back to the hotel for naps, but neither of the boys were too keen on sleeping. Patrick finished early so we went to pick him up and of course that's when they both fell asleep! Friday night we went to Aunt Mary's house for wonderful homemade pizza. Drew had a great time with Mary, taunting her cat, and just exploring a new place.

For Saturday, I had done some research and found a museum I thought would interest Drew. So we met Aunt Mary and spent the morning at the B&O Railroad Museum. Yep...it was a hit...possibly the highlight of Drew's life! I told Patrick that I am honestly afraid Disney World is going to be a letdown next week! The museum had model trains of all sizes with two huge, intricate layouts that Drew watched forever. We got to take a train ride and walk around and climb on many other cars and engines. There was even a wooden train play set. But the favorite place of the day was the roundhouse. I can't believe I didn't have the camera on Drew's face when we walked in there...he was in complete awe. It was absolutely huge and housed engines and cars of all eras, some we could walk through and sit in. In the middle was a turntable and Drew just walked around on it, looking down and talking all about it. The details he knows about trains and how train yards operate is amazing! We spent a little over 4 hours at the museum and probably could have stayed longer!

Thinking we were going to get good naps out of both boys after a long morning, we headed back to the hotel for the afternoon. Allen went to sleep quickly but Drew had a little more trouble. Since he wasn't sleeping, Drew decided to "play a game" with Allen by poking at him through his pack-n-play. So, with everyone awake again, we set out to explore the harbor area. We walked down by the water and decided to follow the crowds and see where they took us. We ended up in Fell's Point, a really neat little area. We probably could have spent a lot of time there had we discovered it earlier! We continued our walk and ended up back in the Inner Harbor where we picked up dinner and headed back to our room. Unfortunately, I got a migraine and ended up in bed very early so Patrick had to take care of the boys, get them in bed, and pack all our stuff to leave Sunday! Thank you Patrick!!!

We drove home in 10 hours on Sunday...better than our journey up but still not as quick as we would have liked. Maddie was so glad to have us home and Drew and Allen were thrilled to be back in their domain. Now we're on to a VERY busy week...preschool starts Tuesday, Auntie Maggie, Uncle Jim and baby Elizabeth are coming Friday, and Patrick, Drew and I leave Monday for Disney World! So Mommy has A LOT of laundry, cleaning and packing to do and a short time to do it!

It looks like Drew had a great time at the museum. I have never seen a kid so obsessed with trains! I didn't realize that stroller wheels could go flat. I thought they were just solid plastic...obviously I was wrong.

Sounds like a great trip!! Especially the train museum. Drew would love to meet my Dad. He goes on "train trips" with his friends where they chase trains for a week at a time, riding, taking picture, etc. He's even gone out of the country doing it over the years. That might be in Drew's future!! he he!! (and he's in a train club that meets once a month to look at train pictures they've taken). Craziness!!!
